Doing anything well requires a solid plan.
Social Media is no exception. At SocialDirect, we focus on creating a plan for our clients before beginning any social/ digital media engagement. In fact, it is usually the first step following an audit of their social media efforts to date.
A plan, you say? Well, what does such a plan look like? What are the key elements?
Generally a plan outline has 5 key areas. Consider:
1. Objective- what are we trying to accomplish with our social media presence? This must come first and can often be much more difficult to discern than one might surmise.
2. Audience- who are we trying to engage and what do we know about their social profile? Audience segmentation is often required and can result in multiple strategic pathways.
3. Communication Strategy- what pathway will we take to make the kinds of connections that will impact our audiences and achieve our objectives?
4. Measurement- Social media is an analysts dream providing enormous amounts of data. Which metrics are most important? Why? Which actions lead to the desired outcome and how can they be measured?
5. Content Development and Distribution- what are we going to say, do or proclaim? How often and where? Which platforms make the most sense and why?
A simple outline, but the amount of work necessary for each element can be a handful. It must be approached with intention and the full-support of the business, brand or organization.
